Ad Conveys Misleading Message
Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 12:20PM Recently, I came across an ad for a new product by Renuzit – Crystal Elements. I was not sure if it was candy or a scented product based upon the imagery used in both the advertisement and on the package. The integration of the fruit makes it very difficult to decipher whether this is an edible/food or household product. As a parent, I know it is my responsibility to keep kids away from household items such as this product, but honestly I believe even an adult would be fooled by this messaging and the appearance of the product itself. Apparently, I am not the only individual who feels the product and packaging could be interpreted as a food product. I found this blog in which many comment about the safety concern of kids as well as adults consuming because of the misleading appearance: http://tinyurl.com/lsqpps
What, if any, do you believe is the responsibility of the manufacturer in clearly communicating and integrating visual queues that can be very misleading? ~ packagedesign.com staff
